Course Details
The first step in designing a great game - is having a great game idea. A lot of people have really great ideas but don't know what to do next. This is why the next step is so important.
The second step is where you take your game idea and start building out the game elements that turn your idea into a game. This includes the player experience, the character stories and other components that give your game depth and meaning.
In this course we will explore topics like the gaming loop, character development, monetization, storylines and other great topics.
Course Contents (11 lessons)
- 1.In mobile app and game development a lot of industry lingo is used. To succeed in the industry you need to have a basic understanding of these critical terms and phrases.
- 2.One of the your first challenges in designing your game is determining what type of game you will be creating. Novel concept right?
- 3.The Core Gaming Loop is what models the full play session from the mechanics point of view. Meaning, the Core Gaming Loop comprises the core mechanics of the game that a player attempts to accomplish during their play session.
- 4.As a game designer, you may ask yourself what the core experience is for the game or app that you are trying to build. This is a critical part of the design process and one that is often overlooked for its value.
- 5.This is a great question that designers come across -- what is the difference between the Core Player Experience and the Core Game Loop? Let's explore the differences of both and what roles they play in your game.
- 6.One of the critical steps in designing a strong game is in the creation of the Storyline or narrative for the game. This is different than the Core Experience and the Core Loop, but is just as critical in the early steps.
- 7.As we build out our Storyline within our game, a crucial element is the development of strong players and characters. This guide will cover some of the tips and tricks to creating strong players and characters within your game.
- 8.The game mode dictates how players interact your game. Choosing the right game mode is an important distinction for the game style that you are trying to create. This choice is very closely tied to the needs of the core loop of your game.
- 9.A view within a game represents how the player sees the game content and interacts with the game world. Choosing the right game view early on in the design process is important as it will help guide decisions as you develop characters, levels and features.
- 10.Evergreen games are ones whose core gaming loop is a repeatable action. However on each repeat the action, strategy or game play is slightly different.
- 11.No code game makers are software solutions that allow you build game design concepts, maps, worlds, designs, etc, without actually having to program anything.
